To those of the ASTP who have never attended a reunion. I have just returned from my first reunion of the ASTP held in Iowa City the 6th, 7th and 8th of June, 2002. I had hesitated to go as I was sure that I would not know any or very few of those who attended. The letter I had received from Brock Corbin stated that in prior reunions most had only known a few but that all got acquainted with each other real quick. He was certainly right Immediately upon arriving I saw John Cresap and knew him immediately as he was exactly like he was when we were in school, except a little older. Then at dinner Brock and I were talking to another person whom I did not recognize but when Brock said his first name is Gerald I immediately knew that it was Gerald Firestone, who was from the same house as myself .... and for the rest of the reunion we became better friends than we have ever been. One of the most motivating factors that prompted me to attend the reunion was that I felt that we owed it to Brock Corbin and Steve Wright for all the time and effort and expense they had incurred in locating and assembling a website and also for the deserving efforts of Arnold Freitag in planning the reunion. As we were leaving the reunion, I felt that every man there had been a close friend for many years even though we had just met, as we had so much in common from years ago I suggest that as many ASTP members who can possibly attend the next reunion.... do so .... and that they will be glad they did.... I GUARANTEE IT Sincerely, |
