| During World War II, the Army set up a program to train engineers. About 500 of us were sent from our units
to the University of Iowa in the spring of 1943. For most, the program ended 9 months later; for some, 18 months
later. The program was terminated because of more urgent manpower needs. Many ended up in the Signal Corps, some were sent to the Infantry, and some were killed in action. |
