Leland C. Adams, 73, a former executive vice president and director of Amoco Corp., died Saturday at Lake Forest
Hospital in Lake Forest, where he lived.
After graduating from the State University of Iowa with an electrical engineering degree, Mr. Adams spent more
than three decades working for Amoco, taking his first job in 1948 as a geophysicist at the company, which was
then called Stanolind Oil and Gas Co. He became executive vice president of Amoco International in 1970 and president
in 1975, serving in that position until the company's consolidation in 1981. He was executive vice president of
Amoco Corp. from 1983 until his retirement in 1987. "Lee Adams was instrumental in the expansion of Amoco's
exploration and production activities into many new and uncharted areas of the world," said H. Laurance Fuller,
chairman and chief executive officer of Amoco Corp.
Mr. Adams, who served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1943 to 1946, also served on the boards of Harris Bank,
Louisiana Land and Exploration and Children's Memorial Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Mavis; three daughters,
Gwen and Donna and Diane McCormick; and four grandchildren. A funeral was held Wednesday at Wenban Funeral Home,
320 E. Vine Ave., Lake Forest.
